A large "piggy back" addition to an existing 1930s brick house in Northcote, the Emmaline Street project aims to integrate into the suburban streetscape while addressing the private back yard with a striking contemporary design. The "hood" provides shade from the sun as well as privacy from the neighbours, while the angular Cocky cage gives the pet in chief plenty of room to stretch his wings, while simultaneously paying homage to the traditional suburban shed and to the visionary work of maverick English architect Cedric Price.
The main extension is built incorporating Passive House technology, including hyper-insulation, heat recovery ventilation system, triple glazed German windows and stays warm through winter without needing heating, and cool through summer without the need for cooling.
