Gold Street

The Gold Street project is another exercise in integrating contemporary architecture into a heritage building on a tight inner suburban site, which has limited access to daylight. as well as maximizing access to light. The planning was driven in large parts by the need for light, and the desire to open out the rear of the house to the garden.
The zinc cladding of the new extension is intended to contrast, but not conflict with, the 19th century brickwork of the existing house and surrounding buildings.
The varied volumes at the rear of the house play off each other, and help to knit the house into the garden. The deck is nestled in the corner between the lounge and the kitchen, and is partially covered by a translucent fibreglass roof supported in a series of timber beams.
