A minimal extension and refurbishment to a 1920s timber house in Westgarth, the original house had a rear lean-to enclosed by vertical timber slats, giving access to the outdoor dunny and the laundry, and forming a kind of outdoor room a the rear. The owners wanted to make minimal changes.
The design approach was to build a modern version of the original. The WC and laundry came inside and the timber slats were stained rather than painted, creating the effect of a new outdoor room with a shaded raised deck which opens out to the backyard by a series of steps.
