Tylden Arrow

A small private gallery / studio space on a rural property north of Melbourne, the Tylden Arrow sits like a shiny alien spacecraft in its bush surrounds, its arrow form referring to speed, motion and highway signage, pointing the way to..... something.

Built by the client to house the paintings of his late wife, the exterior is deliberately enigmatic, while the interior is a place of quiet contemplation and remembrance.

The galvanized steel cladding conjours up images of technology but also acknowledges the tradition of utilitarian bush building, while the timer slats recall aspects of Australian vernacular architecture in abstract form.

The Tylden Arrow received a commendation in the National Colorbond Awards 2014.
